Food as medicine

Leave your drugs in the chemist's pot if you can heal the patient with food.” Hippocrates

At Naturae Health we believe that it is the small things that we do often that make the biggest difference to our health and wellbeing.

Putting the right fuel into your body is one of the most important aspects of good health and one which we can all embrace.  Each meal that we consume can support our health and wellbeing or detract from it.

Good nutrition supports physical and mental wellbeing, helps to protect our bodies from environmental insults and toxins, promotes healthy ageing and a fuller enjoyment of life and helps to prevent against illness, particularly the chronic diseases so synonymous with our modern lifestyle.

We do not favour a one size fits all approach to diet, understanding that, as with everything, diet and nutritional needs are best when personalised.

There can be no argument however, that wholefoods act as a kind of everyday medicine consuming a wide variety of wholefoods ensures that your body has all the raw materials it needs to function at its best.  This is one of the many reasons that we promote a ‘just eat real food’ approach and prioritise nutritional interventions in our treatment plans.

Clinically we see that many disease states can be managed, improved and even reversed with careful dietary management.  Science is increasingly uncovering new information supporting the benefits of holistic, wholefood nutrition.   Recent research in the fields of Nutrigenomics (the scientific study of the interaction of nutrition and genes, especially with regard to the prevention or treatment of disease) and the impact of our microbiome (the community of microorganisms living on and in our bodies) on health outcomes are just two examples of how much our health can be impacted by what’s on the end of our fork.

Nutritional education and support can be a powerful agent of change. It empowers our clients to take charge of their health and places them front and centre of the healthcare process,  at Naturae Health it is always our goal to promote independence and long-term change to the benefit of our clients, and as such Food as Medicine is a core aspect of our approach.

We will consider your gut health and digestive capacity, current health status, any allergies or intolerances (identified or suspected), personal and family health history and a range of other factors when determining how a Food as Medicine approach is best implemented for you as an individual.

We are always happy to chat about food!  To discover how a Food as Medicine approach can benefit you contact us or make an appointment to see Ky at The Naturae Health clinic.
