Women's health

Women are not small men.  This may seem obvious and yet, so much scientific research and so many therapeutic interventions, not to mention entire medical systems are based on the premise that if it works/is tested on a man, then it must also be suitable for a woman. Not so.

Women’s health is a passion of mine, and not just because I’m a woman.  So often I see women putting their health and wellbeing last on the list of priorities.  We have so much going on that we are often not at the centre of our own lives and we ignore the little hints that our body gives us that something may not be quite right.

As a holistic healthcare practitioner, I support women in making the most of our beautiful bodies and extraordinary minds…did I mention I’m passionate about this 😉

Many conditions are unique to women or have a much higher prevalence in women, some of these are listed below.  The experience of poor health, sub-optimal wellbeing, and active illness is often different for women.

As women, we experience unique social pressures, lifestyle struggles and challenges. Increasingly women are time poor, trying to balance multiple roles – partner, parent, employee, entrepreneur, career woman, role model, inspiration, friend, community member, chef, cleaner, driver – to name a few.

Women may be adversely affected by genetic quirks, poor nutrition, and lifestyle imbalance in unique ways.  Healthcare for women needs to be based on an awareness of these issues as they affect each individual woman.

Considering all this it’s easy to see how a personalised, supportive and holistic treatment approach designed with the unique needs of women in mind is not just a pretty good idea, it’s essential to long-term health and wellbeing.
